Traditional paper marbling
Adults 15 years & up
Children 6 to 14 years old
Ebru is a centuries old tradition, passed down from generation to generation. Ebru workshop invites you to have an experiment to learn Turkish Ebru Art using traditional techniques with artist Esra Olgun.
During the workshop you will learn about general information, materials and classic techniques.
Turkish Ebru Art is performed using aqueous natural pigments mixed with ox-gall in a rectangular trough filled with thickened water, traditionally prepared using gum-tragacanth. Colors are sprinkled using brushes made of rose stalks and horsehair on the surface of the thickened water in the trough. The floating pattern is taken off on paper after being reshaped and retouched using special pins, needles and combs.
Materials used during the workshop are imported from Turkey to ensure authenticity and are of the highest standard. Uniquely the paints are hand-mixed and the brushes are handmade from rose stems and horse hair
